Mario Moraes got his first taste of speed at 11 years old in a go-kart. He displayed talent and recorded impressive results straight away.

After three years racing go-karts, Moraes stepped out to Formula TR 1600 in the United States. Following his experiences in America, Moraes returned to Brazil to race in the prestigious South American Formula 3 Championship. He then moved to Great Britain to contest the British F3 Championship.

Moraes finished his rookie IndyCar Series season in 2008 with three top-10 performances, including a career-best finish of seventh at Watkins Glen.
